Things to Do In Cairns in October

When people ask me "what is the best month to visit Cairns?". I answer October. It's warm, but not too hot. It's perfect beach weather, with no stingers around, and the nights have lost any hint of coolness. It's actually the month we chose for our own wedding, as we had guests coming from all over Australia (and overseas too) and we wanted to maximise their chances for perfect weather.

This makes October the perfect time to pay a visit to the quaint little rainforest town of Kuranda on the "Kuranda Skyrail and Scenic Train", You could even try the "Xtreme White Water Rafting" on the Tully River for the more adventurous.

The majority of the rain tends to fall late afternoon or overnight, meaning your days shouldn't be affected. This means you can still visit the Great Barrier Reef. An option that is very popular is a cruise to "Green Island & The Reef". You'll get to spend the morning on ever popular Green Island and then visit an outer reef pontoon for snorkelling and/or scuba diving in the afternoon.

Kuranda Train & Skyrail - from $112

Kuranda Village is a quaint little town located at the top of the mountain range just behind Cairns. Kuranda is most famous because of its means of getting there. The Kuranda Scenic Train winds its way in an hour and a half journey up the mountain to Kuranda, and Skyrail is a cable car ride that takes at least one hour to get there, travelling above world heritage listed rainforest.

Green Island & The Reef - from $222

The locals have been doing this for years, now it's your turn. Grab one of our purpose built, high quality tubes and hit the river. The Mulgrave river is located approximately 40 minutes south of Cairns. This is a great half day family activity with a minimum age of 5 years.

What is the Weather like in Cairns in October?

In my opinion October is the best month of the year to visit Cairns. It's not too hot, or the slightest bit cold. There's no stingers, so it's perfect for the beach. Basically it's just perfect.
