Rainforest, or World Heritage Rainforest.
Tropical rainforest is an important
attraction in the Cairns area. The
Daintree Rainforest and Cape Tribulation is a short drive from Cairns and is
a World Heritage
listed rainforest. The rainforest is almost pristine and development is
minimal and always in an environmentally friendly way. Many of the resorts
up there you would not even be able to see.
The Daintree River
is home to the crocodile and there are a couple of different cruise companies
that offer trips up and down the river in the hope that you might see one.
Usually, if it's a sunny and warm day, you will find them sunning themselves on
the river bank. Not a place to try water skiing for the first time!
We are also surrounded by many lesser known
sections of Rainforest, in fact all you'll see from the plane is green and blue.

Rainforest Tour Details:
We head North on the scenic coastal road in a comfortable air-conditioned bus to
Mossman. The highway snakes along the shoreline past secluded beaches and
rainforest clad mountains with views over the Coral Sea to the Great Barrier
Reef.
Our first stop of the day is Daintree Mangroves Wildlife Sanctuary
where we will enjoy a coffee and cake with some friendly animals -Kangaroos,
Cassowairies, Gliders, Crocodiles and unique Australian wildlife.
Heading North, we cross the Daintree River on the cable ferry. We stop at the
Alexandra Range Lookout, which gives you a birds-eye view of the
Daintree River, Port Douglas and on a clear day, landmarks South of Cairns.
After the lookout, we experience the Marrdja Rainforest Boardwalk
or Jindalba Rainforest Boardwalk where we see trees that have
been caught in a time-capsule - they haven't changed in millions of years. As we
pass through the ancient rainforest, the Marrdja boardwalk leads us over a
complex mangrove swamp system.
It is time for lunch! - at the Cape Trib Beach House - with a choice of 4
delicious options. After lunch we take a walk on the stunning Cape
Tribulation beach - where 'the rainforest meets the reef'. Then we head
back up the Alexandra Range towards the cable ferry. We stop at the Daintree
Ice Cream Company to give you a chance to buy a tropical fruit ice
cream (time permitting).
After crossing on the ferry we head towards Daintree village for a crocodile
and wildlife cruise on the Daintree River. The boat cruise takes us
through the domain of the large Estuarian Crocodiles. Egrets wade near mangroves
in the murky water of the river where crocodiles wait patiently for a meal.
Then we head south to the crystal clear waters of Mosman Gorge, surrounded by
lush rainforest - a magical location for a refreshing swim! The clear mountain
river cuts through thick rainforest and tumbles over boulders on it's journey to
the sea. We explore the forest before getting back on the bus.
On our way home we visit the picturesque tourist town of Port Dougles, arriving
back in Cairns after an exciting day at about 6.30pm.
