Although a very early start, it's definitely worth it. The bus picks you up from your accommodation at some ungodly hour (around 5 am, depending on the time of the year), but you can sleep on the way there. Once you get to Mareeba, you get to watch the whole process of putting the balloon in the air. It's absolutely spectacular, and at that time of the morning, it's very peaceful.
Once in the balloon, it's up and away. It's so quiet, you can hear the birds starting to wake up, and if like me, you'll see the early morning mist from a great height. The only sound you have is of the burner and the sounds of your camera's clicking away.
After either a half hour or an hour balloon flight depending which one you have chosen it's off to the Mareeba Heritage Museum for a breakfast of fruits, champagne, chicken, and much more. It's there you are presented with your flight certificate, and then it's back home around 10:30 am.

So you think you'll be feeling a little energetic on your holidays and would like to see the reef from a different angle? Read on...
The day starts with a fast ride over to Fitzroy Island (no, you don't have to kayak there!) and as soon as you arrive you get ready to hit the water. Don't worry if you haven't brought a friend along with you, you'll soon be paired up with someone else of equal ability and then your guide will run through a few safety aspects with you. Then you're away paddling around Fitzroy Island and then to Little Fitzroy Island, where you get to eat lunch on a private beach.
During the day there is plenty of time available for snorkelling, with all snorkelling equipment provided for you.
Whilst on Little Fitzroy Island you will be taken on a guided walk and there will be free time to take a swim in the pool or just laze around on the beaches.
You probably won't find it too strenuous, although if you haven't done too much exercise on your holiday, you will feel muscles you never knew you had the day after!
You return to Cairns by boat at 5.30 pm.
Tour departs daily.
